VCOM Event for Texas Students – Please share

Pre-med students,

We have had some TxSt Bobcats attend VCOM, and as she mentions, they just opened up a branch campus nearby in Louisiana.

Sorry for the boom of emails this morning – clearly everyone got busy with marketing and advertising when they got back to the office after Thanksgiving. My inbox runneth over. But we’d rather over-share than under-share.

Good Morning Dr. Banta,

My name is Danielle, I work at VCOM in Recruitment and Application Services. I wanted to share the attached flier with your organization advertising an event we are hosting on Thursday at 12 pm CST for students from Texas interested in medical school. We will feature a presentation about our school and end with current VCOM students discussing their experiences as a medical student! We attended a conference last year for TAAHP and wanted to make sure that all of the members were aware of our program. We currently have a large handful of Texas residents enrolled at VCOM and with the opening of our Louisiana campus this year we hope to add more to our student body in the future.

I hope that you will be able to share this information with your students at Texas State University.

All the best,

Subject: ANNOUNCING: the opening of the 12th annual Kaplan MCAT and DAT test prep competition (due date is 5:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 24)

Hello Pre-Health Students,

Drs. Pesthy and Banta attend state and national Pre-Health Advisor Conferences each year, and at these conferences we are given the opportunity to earn certificates for FREE test-prep courses that we can provide to our students. We make sure that we take advantage of these opportunities at every conference we attend (even if we are only attending them virtually this year) and we thank Kaplan for their generosity as they continue to provide us with these certificates year after year.

And so, we are pleased to announce the opening of the 12th annual competition for free test prep courses. Only current Texas State University students may participate.

We have two certificates from Kaplan that can be used for an MCAT prep course. Only pre-med students applying to medical schools in 2021 are eligible to compete for these certificates.

We have one certificate from Kaplan that can be used for a DAT prep course. Only pre-dent students applying to dental schools in 2021 are eligible to compete for this certificate.

Instructions and a link to the application are attached to this email. We HIGHLY recommend you read the instructions carefully first. A complete application requires two steps: completing the online application and submitting a transcript.

The deadline for submitting applications is 5:00 pm on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. No late applications will be accepted. Winners will be notified right after the Thanksgiving holiday by email.

Only complete applications submitted on time will be considered.

Good luck!

Respectfully,

Drs. Banta and Pesthy

Good morning, advisors!

We’re excited to share our partnership with Tour4Diversity in Medicine to host two exceptional Courage Sessions with panels of BIPOC physicians (BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) as part of the #BIPOCinMed series! These doctors will share their experiences and perspectives as they’ve worked their way toward realizing their goal of becoming a doctor, and will share feedback on how aspiring physicians can create their own path.

The Courage Sessions will take place at 7pm CST to allow more students to attend and ask questions of our panelists live through the TXHES Facebook page. Recordings of these sessions will be available on our YouTube channel by the end of the week.

Session Topics:

Please forward this invitation to your students – we’re looking forward to having some great turnout of Texas students to kick-start this national series for the Tour4Diversity team.

Two Facebook Live sessions this week hosted by the Texas Medical and Dental School Application Service (TMDSAS) and the Tour for Diversity in Medicine

Hi everyone,

This set of Facebook live presentations is being hosted by TMDSAS this week in conjunction with the Tour for Diversity in Medicine which has gone virtual this year. The focus is on medical school admissions, but if you are pre-dental and planning to apply to dental schools in Texas, then everything that they will be talking about on November 17 will be relevant to you as well. You should be able to use the fb.com/txhes link to access the live sessions. And, if you have not checked out the many AMAZING courage sessions that the folks at the Texas Health Education Service (TXHES) have already produced, you should do so. (https://www.txhes.com/)

We’re excited to collaborate with @Tour4Diversity to bring two special Courage Sessions as part of the #BIPOCinMed series at http://fb.com/txhes this week!
