CARS Workshop Critical Analysis of Reasoning)

Hello Pre-Health Students,

We are pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring our verbal reasoning workshop/ Critical Analysis of Reading or CARS workshop again this fall.

Here are the details; please read both pages.

We hope that many of you will take advantage of this workshop. Both the MCAT and the DAT have content (science/math) sections and there are classes you can take to prepare for those sections. Verbal reasoning/reading comprehension is a scored section on both the MCAT and DAT, but there are no formal classes you can take to prepare yourself for this section. However, there are tips, tricks, strategies and techniques you can learn and practice to improve your speed and performance on this section. Anyone taking the MCAT or DAT this spring should be interested in this workshop. (On the DAT this section is called Reading Comprehension)

This workshop should be useful to students at any stage of preparation (applying in the 2021 application cycle). Junior and senior level students are strongly encouraged to participate. We offer this workshop every semester so sophomores should wait until next spring.

The workshop is composed of three parts:

1) Classes where different strategies are introduced and explained.

2) Practice sessions designed to let you practice the strategies you learned

3) Real, full-length practice CARS exams to let you test how you are doing.

[Dental students – we are working with the MCAT because multiple practice MCAT tests are available and this is not the case with the DAT.]

You will be expected to participate in all three components. We expect a commitment on your part to participate fully. If your schedule this fall is such that you cannot participate fully, wait until we offer the workshop again in the spring. We try to offer them every fall and spring semester. We will cover the cost of the instructor, passages for practice and practice CARS exams.

To encourage perfect attendance we will give you a complete CARS test Vol II to practice on if you attend ALL portions of the workshop.

If you require special accommodations due to COVID-19 please email the workshop leader Mason Bartman (mason) and cc me (cp22). We will do our best to make it possible for all interested to attend and benefit from this workshop.
