Introducing Case Western Reserve’s location in Austin, Texas

Pre-health students,

Some interesting news for any of you who might be considering a career as an Anesthesiology Assistant (AA). Case Western Reserve has had a campus in Houston for years, but it appears they are now accepting students who want to train in Austin as well.

They are also advertising an upcoming virtual information session if you don’t really know what AA is and would like to find out more.

Hi Marilyn,

Case Western Reserve University’s Master of Science in Anesthesia program recently expanded our location sites to Austin, Texas!

We are now accepting applications for students to start Summer 2022. The entering class includes twelve seats that are dedicated to the new Austin-based curriculum. These students reside in Austin and take their classes, simulation, and clinical rotations in Austin. They will complete their primary clinical rotations at our affiliate site, Baylor Scott & White Health and St. David’s HealthCare. We are excited to offer students a second location in Texas in which to earn a Case Western Reserve University MSA degree.

Austin, which is situated west of Houston, is known nationally for its nightlife and music scene, and has been increasingly popular with millennials in recent years—including CWRU MSA alumni from Cleveland, Houston and Washington. If you’re interested, let us know if you would consider Austin.

Subject: We Need Your Help! – Staffing the Testing Verification Event for On-Campus Move-In

To: Texas State University Faculty and Staff

From: Dr. Cynthia L. Hernandez, Vice President for Student Affairs

Mr. Kyle Estes, Interim Director, Department of Housing and Residential Life

Following recent guidance from our university’s chief medical officer in response to increased cases of COVID-19 caused by the Delta variant, students living in on-campus housing and Bobcat Village Apartments will be required to complete a COVID-19 test prior to move-in to help keep themselves and our community safe. A drive-through event will provide students an opportunity to present their negative test result prior to moving into on-campus housing.

We have reached a critical point where we need to find more volunteers to assist with this event (August 15-17), especially for the Monday and Tuesday time slots.
Volunteers can sign up online using the Testing Verification Event Sign-Up form.

The drive-through event will be held outside in the Aquarena Springs parking lot. Students and families will remain in their vehicles. Staff will be assigned a station and perform the following: help directs cars into one of the three traffic lanes (station 1), ask student if they have their Student ID and Test Results ready for review (station 2), verify date of test was Aug 8th or later (station 3), have students swipe ID card and provide them with verification ticket (station 4), or catch all issues resolution and sending students for rapid test (station 5).

We appreciate you being willing to give up some of your weekend and/or workday to assist. As always, please speak with your supervisor about your intentions before signing up to help. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at DHRLDirector or call 512-245-4610.

Thank you for your commitment to our Bobcat community.

two laboratory teaching opportunities for Fall 2021

Hi everyone,

The biology department can hire qualified undergraduate students to serve as IAs (Instructional Assistants). If you have been thinking about making a little money, getting valuable teaching (leadership) experience, helping your fellow students succeed, and reviewing some important biological concepts then you might be interested in these opportunities.

  1. Dr. Abel is looking for IAs for BIO 2440 – Principles of Microbiology. This is the non-majors microbiology course that is required by some majors on campus (pre-nursing, nutrition etc.) See attached flyer for details.
  1. If you are an ESS major and you have taken (and done well in) BIO 2430 and either AT2400 or AT3400, and would like to serve as an IA for our new Human Anatomy (BIO 3425) course, please email me (mb79) .

Thanks!

Optometry clinic job opening

Pre-optometry students or others seeking patient care exposure,

Please see information below and attached about a possible job in a nearby optometry office with some really interesting clinical offerings. I XXX out the names of the students she mentioned as I was not sure they had given permission for their names to be used on this Canvas site.

Subject: Optometry clinic job opening

Hi Dr. Banta,

My name is Dr. Virginia Kekahuna, I’m an optometrist in Kyle. Over the years, I’ve hired several students from Texas State. Currently, XXXXX and XXXXX are working at my office – I believe you’ve worked with both of them in the past. I’m reaching out to you to see if you could share a job opening at my optometry clinic with any pre-medicine groups you advise. Any student with an interest in the health sciences would be welcome to apply. I enjoy hiring students, especially those who are interested in the health sciences – its gratifying to see their enthusiasm for learning and the health care field!

For you to know a little more about our office, we are the official eye care provider of Texas State Athletics and examine TSXT athletes who need vision care. We provide routine and medical eye care services at our office, in addition to sports vision, neurorehabilitation and vision therapy services. This is unique in our area, as most optometry offices do not offer these services.

I’ve attached a pdf with a little info about our clinic, and the Indeed job post is linked below. I’m hoping to hire someone in the next few weeks for this coming semester. Please let me know if you have any questions or need other clarification!
